VLAN is an abbreviation for Virtual Local Area Network.

VLAN is a method to create sub-networks in a network, so all the data which are dedicated to different deparments don't get mixed together. It enables every client to stay within it's own network by just simply connecting his computer to the right modem port.

Besides differentiation, VLan also allows employees to change their work stations without requiring to rework the connection settings. The employee only needs a modem port which is assigned for his sub-network.

LAN is a network build with physicall materials. VLAN is a virtual network programmed by a software.

VLAN has the advantage to cause more Networks in one LAN, so clients from different department don't mix their data together. Usually, it would require each department to build a network with LAN and cause additional costs. But VLAN eliminates the need of more physicall ressources by dividing one network to several sub-networks.

Another Advantage by VLAN is the security. Since the network is divided into several more, a Malicious user would only have access to just one part of the network, depending on how he joins the network.

It also allows employees to change their workstation and still be within their network without changing the whole topology of their LAN. Since each Switch port or a client is assigned to a certain network, an employee only needs to connect the computer to the a port.

Static VLAN assignes ports to a certain network. Depending on to what modem port you connect your computer to, you get access to a different network.

Dynamic VLAN is an option to assign computers with corresponding software, instead of assigning ports. The software connects you to your network by details like MAC-Address Numbers and similar factors.

Trunk in VLAN is a method to carry multiple signals simultaneously to provide network access between two points.

Usually, a network uses a switch to connect clients with eachother. But a single switch might not cover up every areal and employee a company could have. So with trunking, we can connect one Switch with another and by that, we can also transfer the network connection. So you can get access to all the networks with a different switch too.
